About 2 Good Men

For the past 15 years I, Greg, have been retreating to the Trappist monastery of New Clairvaux in Vina, California once or twice a year. It was on a stay about 18 months ago that, instead of going home, I drove to Modesto, got an Airbnb for a week, and decided to change my life. Within a month, I had earned my CDL A.

After a year of driving, the idea of owning my own truck lingered. A close friend in Chico had recently hired a moving company — Two Strong Arms Moving — and I recognized the main mover from yoga class. I called him and asked, “How would you like to share your business plan with me, Dale?” He was in. After a three-hour chat over decaf, I gave my notice in Oakdale and the 2 Good Men story began.

The concept was inspired by Dale, who had started offering moving services to those wanting to avoid expensive traditional movers. Often clients would hire him and a stranger off Craigslist — and those strangers often lacked experience or reliability.

Dale envisioned a collective of experienced, independent movers — people who knew how to work well together. Instead of rolling the dice on Craigslist, clients could trust that every mover was reliable, friendly, and hard-working. Despite not advertising on Yelp, Dale’s team in Chico has over 30 five-star reviews — all organic.

Through this model, we’ve created a more affordable, trustworthy alternative to full-service moving companies — and I’m proud to be part of it.

About Our Independent Movers

We intentionally seek out movers who live simply, think creatively, and value an active lifestyle. This work isn’t glamorous and it’s not always lucrative — but doing it independently gives us freedom to pursue our passions and care for our families.

Check out the profiles of our independent movers and you’ll see — we’re not just strong backs. We’re musicians, artists, yogis, and thinkers. We find joy in the work because it supports our lives, not because it defines them. That’s why you’ll find that we’re some of the happiest movers you’ll ever meet.
