About 2 Good Men
For the Past 15 years I, Greg, have been retreating to the Trappist monastery of New Clairvaux ( https://www.newclairvaux.org/ ) in Vina, California once or twice a year for a week to ten days and it was upon a stay 18 months ago that in going home...well...I didn't go home. Instead I drove straight to Modesto close to 3 hours away and got an airbnb for a week, decided in a change of life and thusly obtained my CDL A with a month. During the time driving for a year it was always playing in my mind to buy my own truck and all that jazz. After a year it finally dawned on me. A very close friend of mine in Chico where i had been living had hired a moving company and when Two Strong Arms Moving came I recognized the main person from Yoga class. So I gave him a call, "How would you like to share your business plan with me, Dale?" And to my delight...he was all about it and a couple days later after 3 hours or so over decaf I ran back to Oakdale, gave my 2 week notice and...well...trying to design this web page and telling you this story. I'd be remiss if I didn't tell more about Dale and how this all came about.
The concept for 2 Good Men Moving arose while Dale (creator of Two Strong men Moving out of Chico, Ca. and whom I consider a growing friend now)) was offering individual moving services to people who did not want to hire traditional moving companies. The reasons for this varied. Sometimes the job was relatively small but often it was that the costs of a full service moving company was exorbitant. Consequently, his clients would hire him and often, someone else from Craigslist to help them move. Unfortunately, Dale had never met the craigslist person where often they had little to no experience moving and a questionable work ethic.
Consequently, Dale thought it would be helpful to his clients, himself, and other independent movers who provide good quality work to form a collective that allowed clients to make one call or text to set up as many movers as they needed and have the confidence that they were all reliable, experienced, easy going, and accustomed to working together. After all, on Craigslist you never really know what you are getting. It is worth noting, that Dale and co. are the only major moving company in Chico that does not pay for advertising on Yelp, yet they have well over 30 reviews, all of which are five stars.
By forming this collective of high quality independent movers, they are able to provide better and more reliable service for our clients while making the whole process very inexpensive, compared to full service moving companies.
That's pretty much the story and proud to be part of it.
About our Independent Movers
In deciding on who to contact to join this collective of independent movers, we have had a decided bias for people who like to live life in a minimalistic way, for individuals with an eclectic and artistic approach to life, as well as people who are naturally active and happy. Moving can be hard work and it doesn't pay a great deal, even when doing it independently. However, doing it independently gives us more freedom to pursue other interests in life, as well as to spend time with our families.
Take a look at the profiles of our independent movers and I think you will agree that each of us is following our heart when we are not moving your things. Consequently, we do not view this work negatively, as some movers do when they are working at this from 9 to 5. For each of us, it is a key component to allowing us to pursue what interests us personally. As a group we are some of the happiest movers you will ever meet.
